African Academy of Sciences to Host Side Event on Equitable Research Partnerships at World Science Forum 2024
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is set to lead a critical conversation on fostering equitable research partnerships at the upcoming World Science Forum 2024 in Budapest, Hungary. Scheduled for November 20, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:30 (CEST), the side event titled "Equitable Research Partnership for Impact" will bring together global thought leaders to explore strategies for creating inclusive, impactful, and sustainable collaborations in science and innovation.
Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng, Executive Director of the AAS, emphasized the significance of such partnerships in addressing global challenges.
"Equitable partnerships are not just about collaboration—they are about building trust, inclusivity, and shared vision to ensure research addresses the real needs of communities. This event will serve as a platform to align on priorities, share best practices, and inspire actionable solutions that contribute to a prosperous and integrated Africa."
Organized in collaboration with UNESCO and the European Commission (EC), the session will feature a keynote address by Prof. Isabella Aboderin and insights from an esteemed panel of experts, including representatives from the EC (DG RTD and DG INTPA) and the International Science Council. Discussions will focus on practical strategies for building strong partnerships, addressing Africa's pressing challenges, fostering sustainable solutions, and enhancing inclusivity in research.
The interactive roundtable will allow stakeholders to explore the opportunities and challenges of equitable partnerships for impact, while showcasing successful models and case studies. The event promises to be pivotal in shaping the global research agenda and ensuring that Africa’s research priorities are central to the conversation.
